The story begins when Hannah is dead as she succeed in her suicide attempt. Before dying Hannah Baker,  confesses the reasons for her death on tapes. 7 tapes, with 13 recordings one on the back of other. Which are passed to her friends in the same order as her recording goes.

Hannah's reasons aren't void or any exaggeration. The dilemma lies in whatever Hannah had been through is very similar to our own lives. Either we are a victim or a bully. Our little negligence could be a reason for someone's clinical depression or worse could lead them to opt for death. All the little reasons accumulate as it wasn't easy for Hannah to LET GO!! Together the little, big things drag her to the PILLS.

Hannah had no true friends or relatives whom she could share all the bunginess in her head with. She was fit physically and mentally. All she lacked was a little bit of attention, a supportive hand on her shoulders. A person with home she could rant it out. A pillow she could hug and sleep with. People who encourage her to laugh often and talk to her.

Clay was her crush. Though we know that Clay loved her and could have saved her, but it was too late. Clay loved her deeply, all his helplessness and anger justifies how much he loved her. 

The Readers close the book with a regret that only 'If Hannah had spoken all this before she was gone too far. '
